Shitamachi(Old town) Museum in Taito-ku
The old town of Tokyo was reproduced in the hall and you will feel as if you'd been transported through time!
Explanation on display is available in English, with pamphlets in English and French, so people coming to see the sights from abroad can feel relieved, and enjoy the life and culture as well as tradition of old town.
＜1st floor exhibition room＞
Furniture, tools and goods that were actually used during Taishō Period are on display; you can walk in the street there and also enter the structures.
Taishō Period=1912~1926
In a Japanese traditional-style candy store, you can buy nostalgic confectionery.
You can draw a fortunetelling paper slip at Inari Shrine
＜2nd floor exhibition room＞
Documents related to the old town area of Taito-ku are on exhibit.
There is Bandai which was used at sento (public baths) , and you can sit there and experience a comfortable feeling.
Bandai= platform for the attendant (often the owner) at which to collect a fee or watch over the dressing rooms, placed near the entrance.
It is clear that people's lives have changed significantly with the times.
How to get there
By train
JR Keisei line, Tokyo Metro Ginza line and Hibiya line: get off at Ueno station and walk about 5 minutes
By car
There is no parking lot, so you have to search for parking lots in the vicinity if you go there by car.
